SPRING I SESSION: March 16, March 23, April 13, April 27 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m.

THIS CLASS IS FOR AGES 7-9
(class offerings are the same for both age groups, however the pace and level of instruction will vary)

Other concepts emphasize: kitchen safety and kitchen hygiene, mise en place (organize materials and ingredients) measuring dry and liquid ingredients, how to follow and sequence the steps of a recipe, comprehension of important vocabulary, teamwork, problem solving, and much more!

- WEEK 1:ST. PATTY'S GREEN CUISINE: Shamrockin' Quesadillas & Leprechaun Shakes
- We're celebrating St. Patty's Day with all things green! Students will learn how to make quesadillas that are shaped like shamrocks and minty green shakes that contain no food coloring. You'd never guess they were good for you!
- Culinary skills will include learning knife skills and how to use a grater, a turner/spatula, and a blender.
- WEEK 2: APPLES AND FRENCH TOAST DESSERT WITH REAL WHIPPED CREAM Make it for dessert or breakfast! Either way it's a win!
- Students will learn egg cracking, whisking, how to peel, core and slice apples. We will finish off by whipping up real whipped cream.
- WEEK 3:PARFAIT PARTY! Homemade granola, fresh fruit and yogurt make a delicious and good- for-you anytime snack!
- Students will practice knife skills by cutting fresh fruit. We will be measuring and mixing ingredients, and discussing oven safety while making granola. Learning how to layer and getting creative with their parfaits will result in a treat to be proud of!
- WEEK 4: HAVE A "SOUPER" DAY! Spring vegetable soup and rolls brushed with honey butter.
- Students will learn how to make a mirepoix (a mix of diced vegetables) to create a vegetable soup. Students will knead and shape bread dough into small rolls that they can coat with honey butter. What a great way to finish off four fun weeks of cooking, creating and communicating!

- We will be kicking off the SPRING II session with some creative and healthful snacks that taste good and are good for you!
- Students will measure, mix, roll shapes, practice knife skills, and exercise creativity!
- We will be using a variety of fruits and vegetables to create our spring critters.
- Energy bites are a quick source of protein and healthy fats.
- WEEK 2:MOTHER'S DAY PANCAKE-MINI MUFFINS & HASH BROWNS
- It's a pancake, it's a muffin, it's a pancake-mini muffin!
- We're celebrating all the ladies in our lives with special breakfast recipes that are great on Mother's Day or any day you want to cook for those you love!
- Knife skills, egg cracking techniques, whisking and grating will all be addressed.
- Hash browns require only two main ingredients--you'll never buy another fast food hash brown after you make this easy recipe!
- WEEK 3:SWEET AND SAVORY FLOWER POT TREATS: HUMMUS & VEGGIES AND "DIRT IN A CUP" PARFAIT
- We're taking a trip to the Middle East when we make hummus! Students will learn how a food processor works, how to measure, cut veggies into shapes (baton, and batonnet).
- Students will make seasoned chips for dipping, using tortillas.
- Students will be mixing, measuring and layering a dessert to make a parfait.
- WEEK 4:LASAGNA CUPS (WITH GROUND TURKEY OR VEGGIES)
- During our final class of the session, we will be visiting Naples, Italy, where lasagna originated. We will be adding an Asian twist to our creations that makes this recipe so fun and easy!
- Students will learn to brown meat, shred cheese using a grater, and dice veggies while practicing knife skills.

THE KIDZ KITCHEN STARTER KIT
$15.00
This starter kit is required prior to starting any of the cooking classes. The kit includes one customized "The Kidz Kitchen" apron, and a binder for keeping all recipes and activities. Students will be using these items during each session. Apron and binder will be distributed at the beginning of the first class.
